A little leather. A lot of compliments.

I was adamant that I needed my own must-have leather accent item.

On my way into work one day, I spotted the perfect shirt at Woolworths. It was black, with leather sleeves and a chunky silver zip down the back.

I took it home, tried it on and felt like an idiot.

Later that week I returned it.

On the outside it's rock star chic -- a leather jacket over a denim shirt, jeans, boots and a dash of femininity in the form of a statement necklace. "Wow, this would've been the perfect outfit for the Bon Jovi concert last night," I think.

But then my colleague, Michelle, the wearer of said outfit, rips her shirt open. I would say "unexpectedly" because it's 9.30am and we all just got to the office, but is it really? I'd like to think each one of my colleagues has a streak of crazy in them. And I like it.

But back to the point... She rips her shirt open! Underneath is a T-shirt bearing the name and face of a pop star many love and many, many others love to hate: Justin Bieber.

Now, this; this is unexpected.

Jersey Girl

We went out for dinner the other night and I felt like this outfit was a total disaster! It started from the moment I opened my cupboard. I was so pressed for time, the clothes were on my body almost as soon as I'd picked them out.

This meant I didn't have time to think about what I was going to wear -- I just threw something on, pulled out anything that sort of matched with it and hoped for the best.

Luckily, I grabbed this trusty, loose-fitting black dress, so I didn't have to think too hard before pulling out something warm to wear over it. I don't know what made me choose it, but I went for this "vintage" jersey that I don't wear very often.

As I mentioned before, I'm featuring a few friends and a little bit of their wardrobes on my blog now and then. This is my friend Shamieda, whose birthweekend (she doesn't have just one day, people. Her birthday once lasted something like 13 days) we celebrated a while ago.

One of the days encompassed a high tea (yes, high teas are a regular thing in the circles I move in and I'll have it no other way). In light of the festivities, we all gathered in our finery to drink tea, eat cake and talk about politics and hot guys.

Darling, I'm posh!

I sink into a plush leather couch. The view to my left is Cape Town harbour lined with white yachts adorned with the names of women lucky enough to have yachts named after them.

"If we're in the mood for a swim, we could just open this sliding door and dive in," I say to my mother, whose birthday we're celebrating with high tea at the Cape Grace Hotel.

It's the perfect end to a day that started off pretty much the way every day should start off -- with a massage. Then there was a facial. And then a manicure.

"This is the life," I tell my mom. "Don't you sometimes wish you married a millionaire so that this could be an everyday day? Darling, we'd be so posh!"

Hipster?

In a spark of brilliance today, I thought that every now and then, it'd be fun to feature a few friends on my blog.

This is my friend Wendyl, who is the only person I know who isn't a hipster but dresses like one (those glasses are pretty flippin' fabulous, though).

His signature item is his poorboy cap, of which, I know for a fact, he has more than one... I got him one for his birthday.

My only gripe with his outfit is those shoes! They're white and I think that says it all.

Blue Monday

I decided on Monday that I'd wear all the blue items in my wardrobe (Ok, I have more blue stuff but this is still pretty blue, right?).

I also decided that I'd wear heels to work. They were very practical, nude colour heels but heels nonetheless. I do this from time to time and the only reason I do it is because in between these times, I forget that I haven't worn heels to work in so long because it's torture!
